Long before his humanitarian missions expanded worldwide, Dr. Andrew Jacono earned recognition in Washington for his service to survivors of domestic violence. U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy commended him in the Congressional Record for his contributions to women’s welfare through both surgery and charitable work, a distinction that reflected years of pro bono reconstructive care.
That commendation followed an earlier honor closer to home. The Center for the Women of New York gave Dr. Andrew Jacono a Good Guy Award in 2006, citing his advocacy and his willingness to donate surgical time to survivors who otherwise could not afford reconstructive treatment.
A Sustained Commitment, Not a Single Gesture
The recognition tracked a pattern rather than a one-time contribution. For nine years, Dr. Andrew Jacono chaired ABOUT FACE: MAKING CHANGES, an annual benefit supporting survivors of domestic violence, keeping the issue visible within New York’s philanthropic community year after year.
His clinical work reinforced that visibility. As senior advisor to the FACE TO FACE project through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Jacono has personally performed facial reconstructions for more than 100 survivors of domestic violence, repairing damage that often carries lasting psychological weight alongside its physical toll.
Television further amplified the story. The series Facing Trauma, which aired first on Discovery Fit & Health in 2011 and later on the Oprah Winfrey Network, documented Dr. Jacono treating victims of abuse and other traumatic injuries, showing viewers a side of reconstructive surgery rarely covered in the media.
That domestic advocacy runs parallel to Dr. Jacono’s international missions, which have brought surgical care to more than 750 children with facial deformities across countries including Ecuador, Thailand, and Vietnam. Taken together, the congressional commendation, the local award, and the ongoing benefit work point to a surgeon whose reputation extends well past his Park Avenue client list.
